Flash player 10 - new level: 3d world

Posted in AS3, flash by benji on the May 15th, 2008

One year from 9th version of flash player and here we are to a new level of interactivity: Adobe Flash Player 10, code-named “Astro”.
I’m so excited about of this new features of flash player and the new capabilities that will come with this new version. Supporting custom filters and effects , is one of the capabilities that will helps us to just create filters endlessly (this will be possible with the helps of another script language, Pixel Blender).

Here are some of the new features that flash player 10 comes with:

3D Effects - Easily transform and animate any display object through 3D space while retaining full interactivity. Fast, lightweight, and native 3D effects make motion that was previously reserved for expert users available to everyone. Complex effects are simple with APIs that extend what you already know.

Custom Filters and Effects - Create your own portable filters, blend modes, and fills using Adobe® Pixel Bender™, the same technology used for many After Effects CS3 filters. Shaders in Flash Player are about 1KB and can be scripted and animated at runtime.

Advanced Text Layout - A new, highly flexible text layout engine, co-existing with TextField, enables innovation in creating new text controls by providing low-level access to text offering right-to-left and vertical text layout, plus support for typographic elements like ligatures.

Enhanced Drawing API - Runtime drawing is easier and more powerful with re-styleable properties, 3D APIs, and a new way of drawing sophisticated shapes without having to code them line by line.

Visual Performance Improvements – Applications and videos will run smoother and faster with expanded use of hardware acceleration. By moving several visual processing tasks to the video card, the CPU is free to do more.

1017: The definition of base class UIComponent was not found.

Posted in AS3 by benji on the June 4th, 2007

Trying to extends the UIComponent for a new component in action script 3, I’ve got this error. To fix this, I added a new classpath in the ActionScript 3.0 Settings from the Preferences panel. So if you get this error try to add this path: C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Flash CS3\en\Configuration\Component Source\ActionScript 3.0\User Interface

Flex Module for Apache and IIS

Posted in AS3, flex by demiurgu on the May 19th, 2007

The Flex module for Apache and Microsoft IIS provides web-tier compilation of MXML and ActionScript files on Apache and IIS web servers. This module lets you rapidly compile, test and deploy an application by simply requesting the main application file from a web browser, similar to working with server-side scripting languages such as PHP, ColdFusion or JSP.

Note: The Flex Module for Apache and IIS is still in Beta and is subject to change. This is not yet recommended for use in a critical production environment.

You do not need a J2EE application server to use the web-tier compiler. The Flex module for Apache and IIS works with just the web server and a Java runtime environment (JRE).

Note: Applications that require Flex Data Services (FDS) will not run with the Flex module for Apache and IIS.
